Planning your day trips from Hulhumalé

Short layover or late flight? Hulhumalé is the closest town to Velana International Airport, so it's the easiest base for a few hours in the Maldives. The 4 pm snorkelling trip or the 5 pm sunset cruise fits between check-in and dinner. With a full day, the sandbank & dolphin trip or a resort day pass gets you the classic Maldives without paying for a resort night.

Best time to go: boat trips run all year. December to April usually brings the calmest seas and clearest water. From May to November there can be more wind and short showers, and trips go ahead whenever it's safe.

What to bring: reef-safe sunscreen, swimwear, a hat and a dry bag. Modest clothes (shoulders and knees covered) are needed on local islands such as Himmafushi, Thulusdhoo and Maafushi, and in Malé.

Staying with us? Add a tour when you book any of our Hulhumalé apartments or your airport transfer. We'll plan the timing around your flight.
